Abstract

Dental caries cause damage to the hard tissues of the teeth. This condition is usually characterized by black or brown spots, cavities, and various other symptoms in the tooth area. Caries make the teeth fragile, perforated, and prone to fracture, which negatively affects optimal growth. Dental caries reflect that children’s oral health is not well maintained. Based on a survey conducted among 10 fourth-grade students at SDN Pamatan 1, Probolinggo Regency, it was found that 90% of students were affected by caries, while 10% were caries-free. Problem statement : This study is intended to determine the level of knowledge of fourth-grade students at SDN Pamatan 1 Probolinggo by using board game media. Method : The design of this study is descriptive with a total of 28 student respondents. The measurement instrument used was a questionnaire sheet to assess students’ knowledge of dental caries. Data were analyzed by calculating percentages, then processed into averages, and presented in tables. Results : The results of the study show that students knowledge regarding the definition of dental caries was categorized as good, knowledge related to the causes of dental caries was categorized as fair, knowledge regarding the consequences of dental caries was categorized as good, knowledge about dental caries treatment was categorized as fair, and knowledge related to the prevention of dental caries was categorized as good. Conclusion : the level of knowledge about dental caries among fourth-grade students at SDN Pamatan 1 Probolinggo after the counseling session was categorized as good.
