Knowledge of Dental and Oral Health Maintenance of Grade 3 Students Using The Snakes and Ladders Game (Study at SDN Jajar Tunggal III Wiyung Surabaya)

Abstract

Dental caries is a common oral disease in Indonesia. Dental caries is the most common problem among schoolchildren. Caries, or cavities, is one of the most common oral diseases, especially in children. The prevalence of caries in Indonesia is 88.8%, with root caries prevalence at 56.6% (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2019). Based on an initial oral examination at SDN Jajar Tunggal III Wiyung Surabaya, 80% of students had dental caries, while 20% did not. The problem in this study is the high caries rate among third-grade students at SDN Jajar Tunggal Winyung Surabaya. The purpose of this study was to measure knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance among students of SDN Jajar Tunggal III Wiyung Surabaya. The research design used was descriptive, describing the level of knowledge of elementary school students regarding dental and oral health maintenance using a snakes and ladders game. The data collection method used in this study was a questionnaire distributed before and after the counseling session. The results of this study indicate that dental and oral health maintenance before using the snakes and ladders game among third-grade students at SDN Jajar Tunggal III Wiyung Surabaya was in the poor category. Conclusion: Dental and oral health maintenance after using the snakes and ladders game among third-grade students at SDN Jajar Tunggal III Wiyung Surabaya was in the good category.
